April Fools - the answer!

So, what was the answer to my April Fool post?

As a recap, in my last post I gave nine truths and one lie about me, and invited people to guess which one was untrue.  The ten statements were as follows:

1) I can't swim or ride a bike.
2) Sneezing out of a window seems logical to me.
3) I once eBayed a cherry that had been kicked by Dylan Moran, the Irish comedian.
4) I massaged a Moroccan chap called Abdul.  Multiple times.
5) Stephen Fry once called me "Mark" instead of "Mike".
6) I once planned to travel around the country in a van.
7) I wrote a skit about Tony Blair.
8) I wrote a short story about a fruit machine, and a mans love for it.
9) I once conversed with Robert Llewellyn about the state of Starbug in later series of Red Dwarf.
10) As I write this, an uneaten doughnut is on a plate next to me.

The answer is number nine - although I would very much like to communicate with Robert Llewellyn, being an awesome person, the writer of one of my favourite books (The Man on Platform Five) and obviously the man behind the mask of Kryten, I haven't done so at this point in time.  Everyone seems to have been thrown off by the amazing truth that I managed to not eat a doughnut, until I had finished the post!

In other news, I hate my socks.

Seriously, just look at them.  Scum.

These socks are scratchy, and don't stretch, and are just simply not really nice to wear.  I have a selection of lovely bamboo lined socks, as well as more basic thin cotton ones.

But the trouble with these other socks is that they inevitably are worn, and then separate from one another in the washing basket/washing machine/tumble dryer/sorting of clothes process, so that I only have one of my lovely socks to wear.

And these ones are always there.  So in the end, faced with the choice of once again wearing a non-paired couple of socks, or wearing the horrible pair, I plump for the horrible pair.

Finally, thanks to everyone who has viewed my blog - I've just hit 50,000 views (by Blogger statistics anyway) which is really great.  Thank you!  And do keep an eye on my YouTube channel, I'm working on a new video which is going to be quite decent (hopefully!)

National Relaxation Day and did you enjoy YouTube Geek Week?

Firstly, it's National Relaxation Day!  I think this day is a great idea - we are in so much of a rush all the time to get stuff done, it's important to take some time out.  Here's my top 5 ways to relax:

  1. Write.  Yes, unsurprisingly I love writing.  It sets my imagination free and does all that well-being stuff.
  2. Head to a coffee shop or quiet bar.  Somewhere where you can stop, have a drink, and chill out.  My favourite places for these are Planet Coffee, with its huge range of drinks, and Pave - Pave is one of my favourite bars ever.  They introduced me to Jazz, which brings me to-
  3. Music.  Listen to music.  I have possibly the worlds worst taste in music, I can guarantee you that there will be something in my collection that you'll hate.  The CD in my car currently includes Psy, Carly Rae Jepsen, Eminem, Metallica, and Leona Lewis.  And I'm also getting back into my rave music!
  4. Walk.  I don't do enough of this, I really ought to take more constitutionals, but I don't make the time for them, and that's a mistake.
  5. Sleep!

How do you relax?

Changing topic, YouTube's Geek Week took place last week, did you enjoy it?  I loved it!

Some of my highlights:

Taking the geek quiz! (It's still up - why not have a go and let me know what your score was?)

Geek IQ 200!!!  That's the only time I'm going to get a score of 200 for anything IQ-related

This amazing Assassin's Creed Meets Parkour Video:

And this guy doing Pacman in real life!!

A great week!

In other news, I've started a new series on my YouTube channel of book vlogs.  The first book I talk about is The Man on Platform 5 by Robert Llewellyn.  This is my all-time favourite book (I did a review of this a little while back for Faye's great blog, Daydreamers Thoughts) so it had to be the first one I talked about.  Check out the video and let me know if you like it, I'm planning to do more!

The Experience of the Surprise Polish

For the last few Monday nights, we've generally had a Polish takeaway from Kuchnia in Hull. Polish is ace because it tastes great and it's cheaper than some other takeaways, but we don't have a Polish menu which makes choosing meals tricky - my other half always has Devolay with extra garlic sauce and extra mash, but I like to try something different every time.  So this time, when my partner was ordering, and asked me what I wanted, I said "A surprise!  Something with meat in it."

I got this!

Wow.  It was amazing.  Meat wrapped in meat, with mash and tons of gravy.  And lots of tasty veg too.

Now, I have lots of guest posts of mine to talk about!

Firstly, I've got a post up at the great nobodysreadingme which I love very much (the blog, not my post - I'm not quite that egocentric... okay, well maybe I am) where I'm complaining about getting older.  My knee still aches from time to time after falling over a football about six years ago.  The chap who runs nobodysreadingme is a very good writer indeed and his blog is well worth checking out - he also writes at Ether Books and Wattpad (name of Duncan Swallow) and I'd encourage you to check those out.

And secondly, I'm very sorry not to have highlighted this when it went live (entirely my mistake) but I have a guest post up at A Daydreamer's Thoughts due to Faye there being lovely enough to let me talk about "The Man on Platform Five" by Robert Llewellyn.  A book review was a writing challenge that I hadn't attempted before and as it's my all time favourite book I had to do it!  Thanks to Faye for letting me have a go at reviewing, and if you'd like to see my review it's at http://daydreamersthoughts.co.uk/guest-review-the-man-on-platform-5-by-robert-llewellyn/.  I really enjoyed the opportunity to do a book review and I'm hoping to attempt another one in the not too distant future.

Oh - have you played http://winloseorbanana.com/ ?  Very bizarre.
