Household Jobs - Suggestions Please!
I'm going to be doing a video next weekend, and I'm going to need a list of household chores for the video. If you'd like to throw some into the mix, feel free to drop them in the comments - I'd also love to hear about particular chores why you like them, don't like them, any particular annoyances?
For example, mowing the grass - I quite like mowing the grass as chores go, but emptying the mower is a real pain. Or putting clothes away - I'm perfectly happy doing it for generally up to thirty minutes, because I'll be listening to something funny on BBC Radio iPlayer on my phone (The News Quiz, Just A Minute, and The Unbelievable Truth are my favourites, I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue and Dead Ringers are also good) but after I've finished listening to my favourites it becomes deathly dull and I suddenly discover that I really, really, REALLY need to check out my village in Clash of Clans. And anything else that doesn't involve me pairing up fourteen hundred black socks, each with their own slightly different characteristics so that I can't just match two black socks, I have to find the exact pair.
Anyway - look forward to getting your comments!!

Chore Concentration
The graph above demonstrates my ability to concentrate on chores. Basically, when I start, I'm on it 100%, firing on all cylinders, taking that task down.
But as time goes on, I start to get distracted.
Some chores are worse than others. Putting clothes away, or washing up, for example, aren't too bad - I'll play something funny to listen to as I work, and I'm fine (at least until the show ends). But take a job like tidying a room where a bookcase is. It's a massive challenge for me to pick a book up, and put it on the bookcase without reading it for half an hour! Especially if my wife is in a different room, and I can hear her coming so when I know she's about to burst in on me I can pretend that I'm dusting the book or something!
I'd like to say that my lack of concentration is due to my mobile phone, but I think I just like to distract myself :)
You see, I have an ethos of "continuous improvement" when it comes to doing chores. What this means is that as long as the place is better when I stop than when I started, I'm generally happy. If I've only ironed half the clothes, well it's better than when they all needed ironing.
I'd love to hear from you what your approach is - are you good at getting everything done? Or is it a bit of a struggle? Drop me a line in the comments :)
